It’s Adus’ internal body, which consists of people with great experience and prominence within civil society, academia, business community, arts and public sector; the Council Members offer a qualified perspective of who is not in the institution’s everyday life, and commit to supporting refugees.

The Advisory Council’s critical guidance about the Refugee Reintegration Institute’s functioning aims to improve the quality of the services provided to refugees.

The Council Members also contribute to expand Adus’ incorporation within civil society and along with governmental structures.


Andrea Piccini

Full-time professor (RDIDP) at USP (University of São Paulo) in São Carlos Engineering School (EESC) and at USP Polytechnic School (EPUSP) between 1986 and 2000, he graduated in Architecture from Universitá degli Studi di Firenze (1974), earned a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from USP (1991), then a doctorate in Civil Engineering from USP (1999) and another Master’s degree, in Jewish and Arabic Studies, from USP as well. He carries out and publishes studies about Central Asia and Middle East’s Arabic and Islamic Culture and Architecture, cooperating with the Department of Eastern Linguistics, Arabic Culture and Language of the School of Philosophy, Language Studies and Human Sciences (FFLCH) through researches, post-graduation activities and extension classes as the Research Group Leader at the Research National Council (CNPq).


Daniel Miglorancia

Co-founder and CEO of Nutty Bavarian in Brazil and of Magic Bavarian Nuts, USA. Daniel is also president of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), São Paulo Chapter, since July 2017. The 44 years-old executive has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, MBA in Business Management at Universidade Anhembi Morumbi, MBA in Finance at IBMEC, and has attended the Owner and President Management Program (OPM) at Harvard – a course for CEOs and company presidents – which has brought him a great deal of learning and networking, eventually leading Daniel to be part of EO.


Bel Coelho

Award-winning chef at the itinerant restaurant Clandestino and host at ‘Receita de Viagem’ (TLC Discovery), Bel discovered her vocation quite early. Coming from a family of gastronomy enthusiasts, she has a strong emotional connection with the cuisine and its flavors. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and worked for great chefs in some of the most important restaurants in the world, such as El Celler de Can Roca, thus acquiring a rich set list of techniques, both classic and avant-garde. While hosting the TV program, she visited over 35 Brazilian cities, dedicating herself to her research and exploring, with a different perspective, the authentic Brazilian cuisine and its scope of ingredients, characters, customs and stories.


Beto Vasconcelos

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of São Paulo (1999) and a postgraduate degree from the University of São Paulo (2001) and from Federal University of Santa Catarina (2002). Guest researcher at Columbia University – New York, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic (2007-2013). Head of Legal Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic(2014-2015). National Secretary of Justice of the Ministry of Justice and National Strategy Coordinator in the Fight Against Money Laundering – ENCCLA (2015-2016). President of the National Committee for Refugees – CONARE (2015-2016).


Bruno Assami

Bruno Assami led the planning, implementation and structuring of institutions and projects, both in the strategic and operational management. He also worked with management at MASP (São Paulo Arts Museum), Tomie Ohtake Institute, Itaú Cultural Institute and ADG (Brazilian Association of Graphic Designers). He graduated in Public Relations and earned a Master’s degree in Technology for Education. Nowadays, he is the Executive Director of Unibes Cultural, Director of Arena Cultural (a running project to become the first center for disclosure of information about cancer prevention), Cultural Council Member of Portugal’s Consulate in São Paulo, entrusted with organizing the sectorial activity schedule of this institution, and also agent of PROA Foundation for Brazil, where he organizes a schedule of international events.



Carlos José de Araújo Pecini is Cazé. In TV since 1994, the host from Rio de Janeiro has, in his curriculum, programs that highlighted participation from the audience and the appreciation of anonymous people. On MTV, he was part of ‘VJ por Um Dia’, ‘Buzzina’, and the anthological “Teleguiado”. On TV Globo, he devised ‘Sociedade Anônima’, the first TV program to have a virtual audience, and he also gave life to ‘Homem-Megafone’ at ‘Fantástico’. He was head reporter at ‘A Liga’ on TV Bandeirantes, and on National Geographic he hosted ‘Os Incríveis’. He’s been focusing on assessing debates and mosaics related to the sustainability for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ethos Institute, TEDx São Paulo and Schumacher College.


Duca Rachid

The dream of writing screenplays and working on TV was there since the early days of Duca Rachid’s life. She graduated in Journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) in São Paulo, and was a journalist for a few years. She switched jobs and continents until she had the chance to work as a screenplay writer and to have her talent confirmed in several successful soap operas such as ‘O Profeta’ (where she was co-author with Thelma Guedes and Júlio Fischer) and ‘Cordel Encantado’ (with Thelma Guedes and Thereza Falcão). One of the landmarks of this trajectory came in 2014 when she received, along with Thelma Guedes and Thereza Falcão, the Emmy Award, one of the most important awards in worldwide television, for the soap opera ‘Joia Rara’.


Elka Freller

Graduated in Architecture from USP School of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU), she started studying jewelry at Escola Nova de São Paulo, in 1983. She worked as a designer for jewelry stores and has owned a workstation since 1984. She is an expert in Coolhunting and teaches goldsmithing and jewel designing. She worked and volunteered in several institutions in the non-formal education and Arts niche. She’s a partner of Consultoria Criando, which guides NGOs from their foundation until they have economic sustainability.


Fernando Albuquerque Mourão

Brazilian professor at University of São Paulo, full professor at Angola Independent University (UNIA), he has an extended international experience, especially in international relations and negotiations, and also in international arbitration. He has a graduation degree in Sociology from USP (got his doctorate in 1971; lecturer in 1978; associated professor in 1989; professor in 1990), he published five books (39 chapters were published in Brazil, France, Portugal, Spain, Finland and Angola). At USP, he taught, since 1967, several graduation subjects at the School of Philosophy, Language Studies and Human Sciences and at the Law School, until his retirement in 2004. He still teaches postgraduation courses at the same USP schools.


Gilberto Rodrigues

Gilberto Rodrigues is a post-doc (Fulbright Visiting Scholar) from the Center for Civil and Human Rights, University of Notre Dame, USA (2010), and a Doctor in Social Sciences: International Relations from PUC-SP (2004), Master in International Relations – Universidad para la Paz, UN/Costa Rica (1996), Expert in Conflicts Resolution from Uppsala Universitet, Sweden (1996) and graduated in Law from PUC-SP (1989). Adjunct professor at Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), linked to the Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and credentialed in the Postgraduation Program of Social and Human Sciences. Former professor of Doctorate/Master’s degree in Law at Santos Catholic University (UNISANTOS), where he coordinated the International Relations Sector and the Cátedra Sergio Vieira de Mello, in partnership with UNHCR.


Husam Abboud

Husam Abboud, with a focus on areas such as Financial Inclusion, Mechanism Design, and Cryptoeconomics, is leading Adus’ efforts for accelerated social integration with blockchain solutions.

In his youth and while he was still studying Medicine at O6U in Cairo, he founded Akhawia, A Syrian civil society mobilization youth initiative, active in supporting democratic pluralism, civil liberties, and awareness of the so-called minimum public responsibility. With +270k members the project was forcibly stopped due to detention and harassment of authorities. 

He relocated to Brazil in 2008 for a family reunion. there he co-founded Establish Brazil and Establish Global (US), Commonwealth Institute (BR), PDB.Capital (BR) and Digital Payment (PL), and besides being an entrepreneur, he is a researcher at GenesisBlock of FECAP university, a moderator on Entrepreneurs’ Organization, Skydiver and Meditation enthusiast.


José Carlos Meirelles

José Carlos Meirelles is a partner of Pinheiro Neto Advogados’ office since 1996, where he’s been working since 1984. He mainly works with matters related to the securitization of receivables, financial market, project finance, privatizations, mergers and acquisitions, structured loans, private-public partnerships (PPPs), banking law and corporate law. He graduated from the Law School of the University of São Paulo (1986), and earned a Master’s degree from Illinois University (1989). Currently, Meirelles is a professor at the Law School of the Illinois University, where he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2008. José Carlos wrote several articles in books and magazines, both national and international. Since 2004, upon invitation from the UN Economic and Social Council, has been part of a Group of Experts from that institution, which aims to discuss new enterprises to invest in infrastructure in developing countries.


Marc Tawil

Journalist, radio host and writer. He was a reporter at Resenha Judaica, World editor at Rádio Jovem Pan AM and International and Cultural subeditor at Jornal da Tarde (Grupo Estado). Between 2007 and 2010, he was part of Rádio Band News FM team, where he was an anchor, reporter (finalist for the Comunique-se award) and content editor. He published the books ‘Trânsito Assassino’ (Ed. Terceiro Nome, 2007) and ‘Haja Saco, o Livro’ (Ed. Multifoco, 2009). Marc has an MBA in Business Management from FGV, and in Marketing from USP. At Tawil Comunicação, he is responsible for the assistance and also the creative direction. He was elected No. 1 LinkedIn Top Voices Brazil, an international project that lists the top 15 users, based on how much they stand out and generate engagement through their posts.


Nabil Georges Bonduki

Architect and Urbanist, he graduated from the University of São Paulo, where he also earned a Master’s degree and doctorate. In 2011, he was approved as Lecturer in the field of urban planning. Nowadays he is a professor of Urban Planning at FAU-USP. He was Chief Officer of Low-Income Housing for the City of São Paulo (1989-92), City Council Member for São Paulo (2013-16), and worked in coordinating the consultancy to elaborate a National Housing Plan. He was Secretary of Water Resources and Urban Environment at the Ministry of Environment (2011-12), where he coordinated the implementation of the National Law of Solid Waste. In 2015, he was nominated City Hall Cultural Secretary for São Paulo, where he implemented, among other enterprises, the SPCine, a City Hall company, focused on audiovisual, and the City Hall Cultural Circuit.


Paulo Sergio Mellão

Economist, accountant, postgraduate in Information Systems and Analysis, and also in Organization and Methods, Master in Business Management, International Speaker, and Graduation and Postgraduation Professor of subjects related to management, administration, control, planning and strategy. He is an Associated Professor at Dom Cabral Foundation, member of the Former FGV Students Association, associate member to AIHE – Inter-American Association for Businessmen, in the USA, and director of IIA Institute of Internal Auditors. He worked as an External Auditor at Arthur Andersen & Co. and International Auditor at Caterpillar Inc., in the USA and South America. As an International Consultant, he worked in the USA and Europe, representing national entrepreneur groups in several enterprises and ventures.


Rodrigo Abreu

Entrepreneur and investor in the Graphic, Food, Education and Technology sectors. President and Master Franchisee at AlphaGraphics Brasil, a leading Network of Franchises in Brazil, he led the network’s areas of Global Marketing, Innovation and New Projects for four years. He is an International Lecturer on Marketing, Interactive Technologies and Franchising, being present at events in Brazil, the USA, England and Spain. Rodrigo is also a member of Adus’ Council, YouGreen, Estante Mágica and Ampliato, besides being directly involved with several social projects that have a big impact on society. Before working for Alpha Graphics, he was a consultant at Grupo Cherto, among other companies, working directly with consultancy projects for several companies, such as Coca-Cola, Unilever and Quality, among others.


Ronaldo Fraga

He is a graduate in Fashion Design from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), postgraduate from Parsons School of Design of New York, besides having finished a course at Central Saint Martins of London. Besides the homonymous brand, he develops projects focused on the cultural reaffirmation of small communities from different Brazilian regions. Such projects got him awards such as ‘Faz diferença’ from O Globo, and ‘Trip Transformadores’ from O planeta Casa by Editora Abril. His creations have surpassed the limits of catwalks for expositions, movies and books, and were presented in other countries, such as Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Chile, Argentina and Mexico. In 2007, he received the cultural merit order commendation, and in 2009 he received the Inconfidência medal from the Government of Minas Gerais.


Thelma Guedes

Thelma is a writer and author of Brazilian soap operas. In 1997, she published the storybook ‘Cidadela Ardente’, and ‘Pagu, Literatura e Revolução’ in 2003. Then, in 2007, she published the book of poems ‘Atrás do Osso’, and then another storybook in 2010, named ‘O Outro Escritor’. In 1997, Thelma Guedes joined Rede Globo as a screenplay writer and participated on several shows, among which are: ‘O Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo’, in 2002. She collaborated in several soap operas, such as ‘Vila Madalena’, ‘Esperança’, ‘Chocolate com Pimenta’, ‘Alma Gêmea’, ‘O Profeta’, ‘Cama de Gato’, ‘Cordel Encantado’ and ‘Joia Rara’. In 2014, she received, along with Duca Rachid and Thereza Falcão, the Emmy Award, one of the most important awards in worldwide television, for the soap opera ‘’Joia Rara’.

He was one of the founders of Casa Criança Esperança Nossa Senhora do Monte Bérico at Itaquaquecetuba, organization that gives shelter and treats children with malnutrition and in poverty condition. Mr. Hussein was also Law Director at this organization from 2004 to 2011.
